Root release notes | October 2026

We’re committed to keeping you fully up to speed with all of the features, enhancements and fixes we ship at Root. Here are all of the updates and improvements we shipped over the last month 🛠️

Features

We’re working on new features to expand what you can do on Root:

  • Task management: Task management has been enabled in sandbox and production for all organisations. Read the docs.
  • Document improvements: We’re continuing to improve how documents are designed and delivered, with more layout and content options in the document Designer and support for linking documents in SMS notifications. Read the docs.
  • Stacked and pending alterations: Ongoing work is being done to introduce stacked and pending alterations.
  • Automatic activation on first successful payment: Work was done so that policies set to activate on their first successful payment, including debit order policies, activate automatically when that payment succeeds. This can be enabled on request. Read the docs.
  • Custom notifications on applications: Support was added for custom communications on applications as well as policies. This will be rolling out in November.
  • Insights dashboard improvements: We’re working on improving the Insights dashboard. More details coming soon. Read the docs.

Platform Enhancements

  • Performance Enhancements

We’ve introduced enhancements to improve stability, efficiency, and visibility across Root:

    • More reliable scheduled instructions: Product and collection module instructions now start promptly at their scheduled time. If an instruction fails because of a platform issue, it is retried automatically. Read the docs.
    • Safer policy activation retries: Activating a policy that is already active now returns the policy instead of an error. It doesn’t trigger duplicate events or documents.
  • Billing Enhancements

We’ve made several improvements to increase reliability, accuracy, and automation across Root’s billing processes.

    • Invoicing: We’re continuing to improve invoicing functionality. More details coming soon. Read the docs.
    • Collection module enhancements (Read the docs): Support was added for:
      • Hooks that let a module respond when a refund is requested, completed or rejected.
      • Batching payments that weren’t created from a schedule, such as API-created or imported payments.
      • Once-off collections from bank details captured for a single request, without changing the policy’s saved payment method.
    • Payment processing accuracy: Updates were made to make payment handling more consistent:
      • Pending lapses are cancelled on every route when a payment succeeds.
      • Failed-payment notifications are sent on every path, including EFT.
      • Duplicate EFT allocations submitted within seconds of each other are blocked.

Bug fixes

We’ve addressed key issues to improve system reliability:

  • Billing fixes:

    • DebiCheck: Resolved an issue where a mandate response file that listed the same mandate more than once was rejected in full.
    • Payment methods: Banking details can now be updated even when the policy’s existing payment method record is missing.
    • Payouts: Payout amounts with fractional cents are now rounded instead of returning an error.
    • Collection request dates: Fixed a bug where organisations in timezones ahead of UTC were shown payment dates shifted by one day.
    • Bank account formatting: A new template helper strips hidden characters from bank account numbers in exports, which helps prevent collection rejections.
  • Claim fields during autosave: Resolved an issue where text typed in claim fields could be lost when an autosave finished mid-typing.

  • Instruction date filters: Resolved an issue where filtering instructions by execution date returned an error.

  • Stalled data exports: Exports that run for more than 24 hours are now marked as failed with a reason, instead of showing as in progress indefinitely.

If you have any suggestions or feedback, please share them with your Client Success Manager or submit them via the Root product roadmap to make sure we always know what’s top of mind for you.
