Root release update | August 2022
What's new this month? 🚀

Custom notification events
By allowing you to create your own notification events, we are putting the power in your hands to decide when and how your customers receive notifications. For example, you can configure an event to inform policyholders of product-specific changes to their benefits, or even to wish policyholders happy birthday 🎂. You can configure custom events related to policies, payment methods, payments and claims.
With custom notification events, you can also configure which policy documents are included as attachments with the email notification.
Once you have created a custom event in the communications centre on the dashboard, you can trigger the event in one of three ways:
- Returning an action from a lifecycle hook or scheduled function in the product module code
- Using the Root SDK method in the product module code
- Making an API call
With this feature we have also made some general UX improvements to the communications centre on the dashboard.
Please refer to the custom notification events guide for more information on how to implement this feature. This feature is currently protected - please get in touch with us if you would like to enable this feature for your organisation.
Note: This feature is in beta and we recommend thoroughly testing in sandbox before enabling for live.
-
New webhooks for payment update confirmations and policyholder created events
These webhooks are used to communicate the outcome of async payment updates for clients making use of the external payment framework:
payment_updates_succeeded
payment_updates_failed
This webhook indicates that a new policyholder has been created.
policyholder_created
Please refer to the webhooks section of our API reference.

Improved email status tracking
We improved the way we capture email status callbacks from Mailchimp Transactional (Mandrill). This provides dashboard users with more detailed information on the status of email notifications, and allows them to understand failure reasons by referring to the Mailchimp documentation.
If you have any suggestions or feedback, please share with your account manager or submit it via the Root product roadmap so that we can take it into account.
Let's build this awesome new future of insurance together 💪
